LABIOMISTA

A gigantic glasshouse at the entrance and an enormous eagles’ cage on the roof. LABIOMISTA, artist Koen Vanmechelen’s new studio in the grounds of what was once Zwartberg Zoo, already looks very impressive.

LABIOMISTA - literally ‘the mix of life - is an amazing seedbed, a place where art, nature, heritage and architecture converge. A breathtaking trail leads from the restored former villa of the director of Zwartberg mine via the glasshouse and under the eagles’ cage, straight into the Cosmopolitan Culture Park.

Not far from LABIOMISTA, a brand-new picnic place, based on another of Koen Vanmechelen’s ideas, has appeared on a strip of countryside in NOMADLAND.
